House - Rileys Ridge via Mittagong
Presented with a beautiful but exposed site overlooking
the Blue Mountains, the genesis for this house is the basic need for
shelter.
Being high on a windy ridge, the challenge was to maximize
the opportunity to enjoy the position without the exposure. A blade
wall protrudes into the landscape and the dissection of another blade
wall directs ones eyes to the panoramic view. The living and bedroom
areas back onto this wall creating a feeling the shelter required to
sit and enjoy the sun and view whilst service areas are divided from
the living spaces by lying behind this wall.
The house is fully self sufficient with solar and wind
power supplying the electricity. All household waste acts to irrigate
the site and gas provides for hot water and floor heating. The expansive
north facing glass wall works to maximizes the winter heat gain and
at the same time open up the view ahead.
